Student Voice to the National Level, a Focus for a Committee

To aid in strengthening the connection between FFA members and leadership at the National FFA level, the Student Voice Reassessment Committee explored opportunities to engage the student voice within the organization.

The student-led committee recommendations will be voted on by the 475 delegates before being sent to the National FFA Board of Directors.

One of Six Delegate Committees Focused on Transparent Communication

Answering questions of, “How can National FFA better communicate opportunities to students?” to “In what ways can National FFA have clearer communication to its membership?” were what the one of six student-led committees focused on.

The delegate committee met to explore avenues for engagement and outreach between the National FFA Organization and members in the Transparent Communication Committee. The committee recommendations will be voted on by the 475 delegates before being sent to the National FFA Board of Directors. Aaron Lee is beginning his second year singing in the National FFA Chorus. A Le Mars, Iowa, native, Lee has already sung during an Indianapolis Colts game this week and is looking ahead to performances throughout the convention general sessions.

Encouraging Production Agriculture Students is a Goal of Committee

Looking into evaluating opportunities specific to production agriculture in National FFA programming was what the Production Agriculture Opportunities Delegate Committee was tasked with.

As a student-led committee, they had many conversations about what can be done and emphasized at the national level. The recommendations will be voted on by the 475 delegates before being sent to the National FFA Board of Directors.

Committee Creates Conversations on Affiliation

Allowing more students to be involved in FFA is what affiliation – one of two membership options – strives to do. Affiliation is where a chapter pays a flat overall fee compared to optional dues-based membership where it’s paid per member.

One student-led committee made up of delegates from across the nation were tasked with exploring the pros and cons of the proposed models for required affiliation.

Karson Calvin of Missouri chaired The Student Perspective on Affiliation Committee where the recommendations will be voted on by the 475 delegates before being sent to the National FFA Board of Directors.

Institutions Across the Nation Seek the Next Generation of Students in FFA

At the National FFA Convention and Expo, universities, colleges, and technical school from across the nation gather to speak to FFA members about future education and career opportunities in agriculture.

“I think it’s just amazing there’s so many young people from all across the country that have one common goal, one common mission within FFA and that is to make the world around them better. Whether it’s through science, technology, agriculture, innovation, engineering, business, or working with people.”
