2011 - 2012 Eastern Region Vice President Kenneth Quick
INDIANAPOLIS (Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011/National FFA Organization) – When Kenneth D. Quick Jr. was in junior high, there was no FFA chapter at his school. In ninth grade, he helped one of his teachers start one.
“I had no idea at that time that FFA would consume my entire life,” Quick said. “FFA has given me the skills to make an impact in the world. I have developed the skills I need to succeed and have become a passionate advocate for the future of agriculture. I’ve seen how FFA can change a student, a school and a community. Young people need FFA.”
As a conclusion to the 84th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Quick was elected National FFA Eastern Region vice president for 2011-12.
Joining Quick to serve as national FFA officers for 2011-12 are Ryan W. Best of New Mexico as National FFA president, Jason Troendle of Minnesota as national secretary, Alicia Hodnik of Wisconsin as Central Region vice president, Cain Thurmond of Georgia as Southern Region vice president and Seth Pratt of Idaho as Western Region vice president.
Originally from Granville, N.Y., Quick is a freshman at Cornell University majoring in international agricultural and rural development and applied economics and management. He is a member of the Triton High School FFA Chapter in Erwin, N.C., led by John Hardee, Allen West, Andy Nelson and Andy Cole.
“My job is to serve as a representative and an advocate for FFA, agriculture and agricultural education,” Quick said. “Throughout my FFA career, I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by advisors, coaches, peers and even junior high members who have helped develop me into the man I am today – a true product of every FFA program, partner and experience I have ever had.”
For the next year, Quick and his national officer peers will be the face and spirit of FFA. Collectively, they’ll travel more than 100,000 miles throughout the country as they engage top leaders in business, government and education and lead a host of personal growth and leadership training seminars for FFA members. The team will also help set policies that will shape the future of the National FFA Organization and promote agricultural literacy in general.
Formerly known as Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization provides agricultural education to 540,379 student members in grades seven through 12 who belong to one of 7,489 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
