Ty Walter of the Platte Valley FFA Chapter in Kersey, Colorado has been raising Black Angus cows since he was two years old. Since that time, he has successfully raised 70 of the breed, diversifying from the first cow he was given to improve the genetics of his herd. Throughout the year he gives shots, pull sick cattle, fix fence and serve as night watchman during calving season. Walter said that since the first cow, he has known he would fall in love with producing great cattle and has been motivated to own a high quality, profitable herd. He is supported by his parents Terry and Beck and his FFA advisors Desirae Weber and Mr. Stahley. This award is sponsored by Bayer Animal Health and Nasco Division-Nasco International, Inc.
